Over the past five years (2017- 2022), the landscape of Electronic Health Record (EHR) vendors has seen significant changes, with some companies gaining market share while others experienced a decline.

A recent report from KLAS Research sheds light on the EHR vendors that have emerged as the front-runners in the acute care hospital market during this period. Let’s delve into the details and explore the successes and setbacks of these vendors.

Top EHR Vendors in the Acute Care Hospital Market:

  1. Epic: The undisputed leader in the EHR space, Epic has experienced exceptional growth, gaining a staggering 434 hospital installations and a remarkable 94,656 hospital beds. Its robust and comprehensive EHR platform has earned the trust of healthcare organizations worldwide.
  2. Oracle Cerner: With a significant increase of 99 hospital installations, Oracle Cerner has established itself as a strong contender in the EHR market. Despite a decrease of 7,955 hospital beds, their innovative solutions continue to attract healthcare providers seeking advanced EHR capabilities.
  3. Meditech: Maintaining a steady presence in the market, Meditech has added 14 hospital installations. However, the company experienced a decline of 670 hospital beds. Meditech’s EHR platform is renowned for its usability and adaptability, catering to the needs of diverse healthcare organizations.
  4. Azalea Health: Making notable progress, Azalea Health secured three additional hospital installations. Although experiencing a minor decrease of nine hospital beds, their EHR solutions are gaining recognition for their user-friendly interface and integrated features.
  5. Medhost: While Medhost faced challenges, losing 43 hospital installations and 3,373 hospital beds, the company remains committed to providing tailored EHR solutions. They continue to focus on enhancing their offerings to regain market share and meet the evolving needs of healthcare providers.
  6. CPSI: CPSI encountered a decline of 90 hospital installations and 4,356 hospital beds. However, their EHR solutions continue to serve smaller hospitals and critical access facilities, showcasing CPSI’s commitment to meeting the unique requirements of these organizations.
  7. Altera Digital Health: With a decrease of 105 hospital installations and a significant drop of 26,608 hospital beds, Altera Digital Health faced considerable challenges in the past five years. The company is actively working to adapt its offerings and regain market presence.

The EHR market has seen notable shifts over the past five years, with Epic leading by gaining hospital installations and hospital beds.

Other vendors like Oracle Cerner and Meditech have also made significant progress, while some faced setbacks.

As healthcare organizations continue to prioritize efficient data management and interoperability, the competition among EHR vendors is expected to intensify.

The winners of the past five years will need to adapt, innovate, and deliver solutions that address the evolving needs of the healthcare industry to maintain their positions as market leader.
