Requirements for Doctors to Continue Using Telehealth
January 30, 2023
Nowadays, physicians experience a high burnout that pushes them to constantly look for ways to alleviate some burdens prevalent in the current medicine workload while still providing high-quality patient care.
Meg Barron, vice president of the American Medical Association for digital health strategy, has this to say: “Never before has there been a greater need to be able to leverage digital solutions and technologies to help meet the need of helping to ensure that the patient-physician relationship is as strong as it can bens that.”
The American Medical Association (AMA) surveyed 1,300 physicians nationwide this year, intending to understand how the adoption of digital health has significantly changed over time (comparing the results to those from 2016 and 2019) and how physicians react to technological changes.
According to the survey results, during the onset of the pandemic, physicians of all ages, genders, and specialties became more likely to use telehealth and other digital tools. Physicians nowadays are open to new technologies and have found them beneficial.
This means nine out of ten doctors apply the newest medical techniques. However, some doctors are still up in arms and would love to jump on board, but they have concerns:
- Does the technology work?
- Will I receive proper payment?
- Will I be liable—is there liability insurance coverage, and are there assurances for data privacy and security?
- Will it work in my practice with my existing workflows?
The survey also asks what motivates them to use the new healthcare modalities. And here are the most popular responses:
- Clinical outcomes.
- Work efficiency.
- Diagnostic ability.
- Care coordination.
- Patient privacy, adherence, convenience, and safety.
In conclusion, most physicians are ready to face any new challenge in modern healthcare because they know its benefits. Something good to know since we all know that modern medicine and practices will eventually overtake and be used by 95% of doctors.
