Healthcare Companies Shine on Fortune’s 2023 ‘World’s Most Admired Companies’ List

- Fortune and global management consulting firm Korn Ferry recently released their 2023 “World’s Most Admired Companies” list.
- 34 companies made the industry rankings, with two of them even ranking among the Top 50 All-Stars list.
- The pandemic has highlighted the importance of healthcare and put a spotlight on companies that have been able to adapt and innovate in the face of unprecedented challenges.
Fortune and global management consulting firm Korn Ferry recently released their 2023 “World’s Most Admired Companies” list, which analyzed 645 companies across 27 countries. The rankings were based on a survey of 3,760 executives, directors, and securities analysts, who ranked participating companies within their respective industry groupings.
Of the 60 healthcare-related companies examined, 34 ranked the industry, with two even ranking among the Top 50 All-Stars list of companies most highly regarded across sectors. Pfizer, the Canadian operation of Pfizer Inc., was ranked 8th on the list, while CVS Health, America’s leading health solutions company, came in at 33rd.
The other 34 healthcare companies that were listed as among the most admired in their industries include:
- UnitedHealth Group, a Minnetonka, Minnesota-based for-profit American international managed healthcare and insurance firm.
- HumanaInc. is a Louisville, Kentucky-based for-profit American health insurance firm.
- Elevance Health is an American health insurance provider.
- Centene Corp, a St. Louis, Missouri-based managed care organization that is publicly traded. It acts as a bridge between healthcare programs that are publicly funded and privately covered.
- HCA Healthcare is a 1968-founded American for-profit healthcare facility operator headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee.
- Universal Health Services, a firm headquartered in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, offers hospital and healthcare services.
- Encompass Health, one of the biggest suppliers of post-acute healthcare services in the US, with offices in Birmingham, Alabama, offers facility- and home-based post-acute services in 36 states and Puerto Rico.
- DaVita Inc. is a business that controls 37% of the dialysis market in the United States. With a Colorado headquarters, it was incorporated in Delaware.
- Select Medical Holdings, a Pennsylvania-based medical business. It owns physical therapy, occupational health clinics, long-term acute care, and inpatient rehabilitation centers.
- IQVIA is a provider of outsourcing services for developing and marketing biopharmaceuticals, with a primary focus on Phase I–IV clinical trials and related laboratory and analytical work, including consultation.
- Quest Diagnostics is a business that provides clients with access to diagnostic testing services for neurological disorders, COVID-19, cancer, cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, and cancer, as well as for employment and court-ordered drug testing.
- Charles River Laboratories International is a pharmaceutical firm in the United States that specializes in providing the pharmaceutical, medical device, and biotechnology industries with a range of preclinical and clinical laboratory, gene therapy, and cell therapy services.
- Walgreens Boots Alliance, a British-American-Swiss holding corporation with its main office in Deerfield, Illinois, also controls various pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution firms and the retail pharmacy chains Boots and Walgreens in the US the UK, respectively.
- Cigna is an international American-managed healthcare and insurance firm with its headquarters in Bloomfield, Connecticut, that provides health and medicare products.
- Thermo Fisher Scientific provides software services, reagents, and equipment for science in the United States. Waltham, Massachusetts-based.
- Boston Scientific is a global manufacturer of medical devices with a focus on biomedical/biotechnology engineering used in interventional medical specialties like endoscopy, cancer, urology, and gynecology, as well as peripheral interventions, neuromodulation, neurovascular intervention, and electrophysiology.
- Stryker Corp is an international business specialized in medical technology with headquarters in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Implants from Stryker are utilized in joint replacement and trauma operations.
- Medtronic plc an American manufacturer of medical devices that develops and produces treatments and technologies for the healthcare industry.
- Johnson & Johnson a large international company based in the United States that creates consumer packaged goods, pharmaceuticals, and medical equipment.
- Roche Group is a multinational healthcare corporation based in Switzerland with two business units: pharmaceuticals and diagnostics.
- Merck is an international scientific and technology business with its main office in Darmstadt, Germany, employing around 60,000 people and operating in 66 nations.
- Eli Lilly and Company is an 1876-founded American pharmaceutical business headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana.
- Novartis AG is a global pharmaceutical company with headquarters in Basel, Switzerland.
- Bristol Myers Squibb an international pharmacy corporation based in the United States. One of the biggest pharmaceutical businesses in the world has its headquarters in New York City.
- Amgen is an international American biopharmaceutical business with its main office in Thousand Oaks, California. Neulasta and Enbrel were the two product categories that the company sold the most of.
- AstraZeneca is a worldwide pharmaceutical and biotechnology business headquartered in Cambridge, England’s Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
- Henry Schein, a 32-country presence for an American distributor of healthcare goods and services.
- McKesson Corp, an American corporation that distributes medicines and offers tools for care management, medical supplies, and health information technology. Almost 78,000 people are employed by the business, which provides a third of all medications consumed in North America.
- AmerisourceBergen is an American pharmaceutical wholesaler that was established in 2001 through the union of Bergen Brunswig and AmeriSource. They offer patient care, drug distribution, and advising for running a medical practice.
- Patterson Companies Inc. is a conglomerate of medical supply companies focusing on veterinary and dental items.
